Matchbook Cowgirl

In Amanda Greenleaf-Whelan, Marketplace: Waitress From Nashville, Max Greenleaf, Rhymes of Passion Fruit on May 11, 2010 at 2:42 am

I’ll fly forth from my bed like crowded spirit

My heart will shatter like a pane of glass

Though now you’re only shadow on my pillow

I’m running out of whiskey way too fast

The fire from the TV spreads to curtain

My journals burn like lemon in a cut

Perhaps this was a bad kneejerk reaction

To climb my way out of your ranch hand rut

Yet, will you say the smile you gave was worth it?

Will you soon confess you looked away?

I might say, I haven’t been your martyr

As bodies made of clay don’t twist and sway

I’ll spend the night in jail with Mona Lisa

She’s pretty when you see her eyes up close

Yet morning will not come to me or shadow

As I did give us both a lethal dose

Which is to plead my case from gates to heaven

I’m not the girl inside, you see in skin

I’m crazy when I find myself in pieces

A cowgirl with a matchbook always wins…

Sweet Whiskey Blue Eyes

In Amanda Greenleaf-Whelan, Giddy Musings Giggling, Marketplace: Waitress From Nashville, Rhymes of Passion Fruit on March 12, 2010 at 2:09 am

Holding my hand, you keep telling lies

Knocking me cold with those sweet whisky eyes

Spinning inside such a darling disguise

Little boy laughing with sweet whiskey eyes

Stealing this duchess

(As you were my king)

Giving the gift of a sad ruby ring

Rainy day picnics — divine on the bed

Poison you poured all went straight to my head

Secondhand heaven all wrapped with a bow

Peacocks and vipers, a lake just for show

You wanted me — hell — I am not mine to give

Stumbling; I dream of the nightmare we live

If you’re so happy, than why do you cry?

Why do I know, when I leave, you will die?

Hand me that drink, it’s not stronger than you

Try to be more than the money you knew

Ruling from castle and sleeping in bar

Beaming out light — see the clever you are?

Ripping my heart, you keep telling lies

Clipping my nerves with your sweet whisky eyes

Hiding inside such a darling disguise

Little boy laughing with sweet whiskey eyes…
